Three websites to download royalty free Indian images and one bonus website tip
Recently we required royalty free images of sarees. Even though saree is the most common garment in India and arguably the most popular garment in the world, content is not so common. Of course we now have the option of AI generated content too. So here is the list of top three website which give totally royalty free images which are free to download and use. Of course you need to use these only for personal purpose and if you feel like, do attribute it to the author or the website. Do read this article till the end for a bonus tip.
Pexels – The top website for everything beautiful
If it comes to open for use, Pexels redefines everything. It takes creativity to a new level. Most of the images which are available on Pexels are amazing clarity and quality. Their search engine is also up to the mark and accurate. The only gripe I have is that it does not have Indian or desi content. But over a period of time that will change. You can also contribute content by creating a profile. They give you stats on your images. If you feel like, do attribute to the author and the website too.
Check out my profile on Pexels.

At the time of writing this article, Pexels offer Pictures and Videos. Very soon they might expand into other content too.
Pixabay – A vibrant community
Pixabay goes one step further offering content in the form of photos, videos, illustrations, sounds, music and vectors. They also have a liberal use policy with no restrictions, In fact just like our first choice, content from Pixabay can be downloaded without an account. You can also create an account and upload content with the same terms and conditions. Once you join Pixabay it is a community and the best that you can do is to attribute to the author or the website.
Unsplash – Wide range of pictures
Unsplash provides the same amount of leeway for downloading picture with the small issue of a plus section where premium content is available only for a fee. Now that takes a little bit of fun out of the whole process. But still they have the option of downloading images without an account.
The free images of Unsplash are available for both commercial as well as non commercial use and that too without attribution. This is a real treat for small entrepreneurs.
What about icons – the bonus tip you have been waiting for
Freepik has always been around for icons. So if you are looking for graphics and vectors then Freepik is the best choice. But the free version comes with limited options. We shall be using Freepik for the cartoon characters which can be AI generated.
Other notable mentions
While doing research we came across the options of Openverse. This is also a completely free service and has been integrated with WordPress. Maybe with some usage we shall be able to know more about this option.
